Do you know the answer to The Mad Hatter’s riddle?

During the  Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter asks: “Why is a raven like a writing desk?”

No answer is given in the book (would an author dare try that today?) and smart as Alice is she can’t figure it out.

Over the years academics have pondered the problem and some have come up with one possible answer:
‘Because Poe wrote on both’.
