On June 30th 1990 J K Rowling first had an idea for a story about a young boy attending a school for wizards. She was on a delayed train journey that lasted four hours.
Seven years later on June 30 1997 readers got the first chance to read the following opening paragraph from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you’d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn’t hold with such nonsense.

Probably the most productive delayed train journey in history…
