“Never did Christmas board display a more goodly and gracious assemblage of countenances.“
I count 32 sitting down for dinner. But I am worried about the the man 4th from the bottom on the right hand side. Has he pulled his chair out or is crouching there, hoping to savour some tasty pickings without being noticed? He looks pleased with himself so he can’t be a member of staff.
The picture is from the 1886 edition of Washington Irving’s Old Christmas
I will be cooking for a smaller assemblage today, but their countenances will be as cheerful as those depicted, or I’ll want to know the reason why.
Happy Christmas!

If you want to use any of this material contact me and there is a very good chance I will say YES.
However, if you just cut and paste into your own blog or whatever and pass it off as your own then there's a very good chance I will find out. Don't fall into the trap of thinking the internet is so vast and expanding so fast (note the fancy internal rhyme)] that no one will know.
Me too – just six of us – but it FELT like 32.
Now they’ve moved on to the inlaws. The Boxing Day clear-up wouldn’t shame 32. (Where are the staff when you need them?)
What can I say, I’m still clearing….
