A Generous Irish Short Story Competition for Anyone, Anywhere

The Moth Short Story Prize is an international prize, open to anyone from anywhere in the world, as long as their story is original and previously unpublished. The winning story will be printed as part of the summer fiction series in the Irish Times, while the 2nd and 3rd-prize-winning stories will be published in the Irish Times online.

The second prize is almost as good as the first. It is a week long writing retreat at  Circle of Misse in France PLUS an open travel bursary which means you can get there no matter where you live.

The Moth was an international arts magazine based in County Cavan, Ireland which became famous for its poetry, short fiction, and art during the 13 years it was published. Although it has now ceased publication, it still runs four literary prizes: The Moth Poetry, Nature Writing and Short Story Prizes, and The Caterpillar Poetry Prize.

Competition deadline: 30th June 2025
Entry Fee: 15 euro
