Safari Friday searching the web for writers and readers — Free photos for Bloggers
PhotoPin is basically a photo search engine for bloggers. It only looks through photographs that are licensed under creative commons on Flickr.
What does Creative Commons mean?
I was convinced it was an abstract concept until I discovered on Wikipedia that it is a non-profit organisation in California.
It started life in 2001 with the aim of issuing free licenses so that the person who created the work (for example the photographer) is able to explain exactly what someone can do with it – for example use it for non commercial activities such as blogging as long as they are acknowledged as the creator.
How good is PhotoPin?
Very good. It’s a real asset to any blogger because there are so many pictures to choose from and downloading is a doddle. But you be the judge…I’ve chosen three search terms at random – bees, witches and angry. This is what I picked out of hundred of photographs on offer…well, I like them. photo credit: nutmeg66 via photopin cc
Safari = Swahili for long journey.I am on the look out for anything accessible from a keyboard that educates, entertains, intrigues, raises a smile. Anything that helps a reader get through the day or a writer the next draft. Let me know if you write a website that you’d like featured or discover something that really should be shared.
