for writers and readers….

Free to enter Harper’s Bazaar UK Short Story Competition

short story competitionThe prize for this competition is pretty special as befits a magazine of Harper’s Bazaar glossy snazziness.
The winning entry will appear in the May 2014 issue and the author will be able to choose a first edition book from Asprey’s Fine and Rare Books Department to the value of £3,000 and enjoy a week-long retreat at Eilean Shona House, on the 2,000-acre private island off the west coast of Scotland where JM Barrie wrote his screenplay for Peter Pan.

Harper’s Bazaar has been publishing good writing since 1867 when Queen Victoria was a middle aged widow and Canada was a new born dominion. Thomas Hardy, Virginia Woolf, Truman Capote, Evelyn Waugh, Zelda and F Scott Fitzgerald, Nancy Mitford, Anita Loos and Dorothy Parker have all appeared in its pages and this is your chance.

Entrants should submit an original short story – up to 3,000 words – on the subject of ‘spring’ by December 13 2013 to: shortstory@harpersbazaar.co.uk

If the prize is special the story will have to be too: spring, bounce, leap, coil, new, rebirth, renaissance, start of the year, fresh, unsullied, young, hopeful (is this helping?)…where ever ideas come from I hope one comes to you

I entered this contest, but am having a hard time figuring out when/how the entrants are notified? Do you happen to know? 🙂

Oh my god!! It’s the same for me, I received a mail notifying me they were gonna read the stories, and since then NOTHING. I even wrote back to know if they made a choice or not… but no answer…

Frustrating isn’t it? I’m going to tweet to see if anyone has any news.

Sorry I don’t have any information on that.
