Write a gritty, urban novella for 18 to 24 year olds about modern Britain – SALT are calling for submissions

urban Britain SALT is an innovative and independent publisher celebrating 15 years in the business with a new experiment in fiction. Books for their Modern Fiction list will appear as ebooks only – the author keep all other rights. There’s no advance but a straight 50% royalty on net receipts and global digital distribution.

Writers can be any age and live anywhere but the story must be relevant to young people living in contemporary Britain and be about characters they will feel passionately about. Crime and drugs, immigration and integration, music and sex, unemployment and survival may be the stuff of the story, but most important of all it has to be ‘unputdownable’.

Salt are looking for original and unpublished issue-led manuscripts of between 20,000 and 30,000 words – no more and no less. They welcome writers from all backgrounds and are especially interested in Black and Asian writers and say that they are particularly keen to represent the voices of women.

Here’s a video that explains the kind of stories they want to publish. Find out more here.
