What two images spring to mind when you think of poetry? Carl Sandburg had no doubts. Quotes for writers (and people who like quotes)

Sandburg is perhaps most famous for his hymn to Chicago first published in 1914. It starts with this powerful opening that gave the city a nickname it could be proud to own: city of the big shoulders.

   Hog Butcher for the World,

   Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,

   Player with Railroads and the Nation’s Freight Handler;

   Stormy, husky, brawling,

   City of the Big Shoulders:

This is his take on poetry…..It’s a synthesis of hyacinths and biscuits. 

I wonder what two things sum up poetry to you?
Me? I’m not sure but I’m thinking along the lines of a tin whistle tune and the colour blue.
