International Writing Competition for Young People
INKHEAD are a group of writers in London who run creative writing workshops for young writers. Every year they also run a worldwide
short story competition for young people between the ages of 7 and 16. The thing that sets it apart from other competitions is that everyone receives a critique – winners get a long one, everyone else something much shorter.
The task is to write a story under one of the following titles:-
Dangerous Diana’s Downfall
The Spy At No. 10
Welcome to the Hacienda
Who’s Laughing Now

Category 1 – 7 to 9 year olds
Category 2 – 10 to 12 year olds
Category 3 – 13 to 14 year olds
Category 4 – 15 to 16 year olds
Prize: One overall winner – £100, plus a full A4 page critique of the story, highlighting its strengths and suggestions to improve it and eight runners-up (2 in each age category) will also receive a full critique and a £25 book token. Winners and Highly Commended stories will be published in Inkhead’s next anthology.
