Creative Writing Course in Brighton starting in April

Creative-writing-handI’m returning to teaching in April and, as the course has been heavily oversubscribed, we have decided to run a second on the same day so if you’ve ever wanted to come on a creative writing course now is the time.

WHEN
8 week course running on Thursdays starting from  April 23rd

WHERE
Portslade Adult Education Centre, Boundary Road, Portslade – on the edge of Brighton, easily accessible by train, bus and car.

WHAT
Explore new dimensions in your writing– tackling genres and subjects that you may not have tried before, working towards developing your own unique voice. While we will look at poetry and try out some forms, this is essentially a course for prose writers interested in telling stories, those that come from our own lives and those springing from the imagination.

HOW
Against the clock class exercises, discussion and sharing work in progress
Reading and discussing the work of published writers
Completing regular optional assignments at home (aka homework) but you will still get a lot out of the class even if your time to write is limited

WHO
This is an intermediate class so it is expected that class members will have some experience – perhaps you’ve been writing on your own for some time or you have attended writing courses in the past. Any doubts, get in touch – use the contact form in the column on the left.

FAQ
I’m working on a novel. Can this class help me?

Yes, some existing members are working on longer projects – assignments and homework options are flexible and can be used to develop your work in whatever shape or form it is in. The emphasis is supporting each student to realise their own goals. One size does fit all!

I’m quite shy. I’m not sure I will fit in.

An important part of my job is to make the classroom a place of safety, somewhere you feel comfortable and able to take risks. Somewhere you can make mistakes. I can’t do this on my own, of course – it’s an environment we build together through mutual trust and respect. There are always opportunities to talk to me one-to-one if you have any concerns. You won’t be isolated within the group.

I’m not sure what I want to write

Great! This is your chance to discover what you want to do.
