This is a first for me….

I’m performing in a horse box next Friday and Saturday at Brighton Festival Fringe.
I’m told it’s a very nice horse box and it is sited right next door to one of the nicest places in the world to have a drink – the Spiegeltent. (The name means mirror tent in Dutch and it’s a travelling entertainment venue. They were popular in the early years of the 20th century but now there are only a handful left. The one that comes to Brighton festival – all  polished wood, stained glass and mirrors – is the same one that Marlene Dietrich  performed in during the 1930s singing Falling in Love Again.)
But I digress….back to the horse box.  I belong to a group of fascinating and incredibly supportive group of novelists: Beach Hut Writers and together we are putting on a show. On two Friday evenings (May 8th and 15th) there will be talks, readings and interviews. I’m appearing on the 8th and will be interviewed by Sharon Zink and then I get the chance to interview William Shaw.
The following day – at 3pm on Saturday May 9th – I will be running personal writing workshops for anyone who turns up (I think we can get four people into the horse box, but less might be better.) Other writers will offer individual readings.
So, if you’re in Brighton come along. It’s all free and there’s no need to book. You will find us and the spiegeltent at the Old Steine, a few steps from the pier and the sea and the pavilion. And the festival has so much more to offer. It’s the second biggest arts festival in Europe, and the third biggest in the world (beaten by Edinburgh and Melbourne).
