Leonard Cohen on Yeats and Shakespeare – Quotes for Writers (and people who like quotes)

YeatsAs a young man, Yeats spoke to me in a way I could understand. Shakespeare I couldn’t understand, but Yeats I could. It was his subject matter and also I really admired the way he put his personal life on the line.

Lovely post and pic. You have a way with you! Like these two down to earth bits of bio too.
In 1966 Cohen published Parasites of Heaven, a book of poems. Both Beautiful Losers and Parasites of Heaven received mixed reviews and sold few copies
1897 Yeats and Ernest Rhys co-founded the Rhymers’ Club, a group of London-based poets who met regularly in a Fleet Street tavern to recite their verse.

Thanks Ann – think the Fleet Street tavern was The Cheshire Cheee which is stil there (with scorch marks from the great fire of London visable on its beams…or so they say.)
