When you are a ‘young writer’ ( in the writerly sense) and double the age admitted you are being flagged off the course and told it is time to go! But good to know of those up-and-coming ‘quality authors given a shot at recognition.

You’re right – sour grapes are no good for anyone. This does sound like a good opportunity. Is it a sign of the times that a literary agency wants self published authors to get involved? Are they worried that too many good books are slipping through the net and being missed by tradtional publishers
I would like to attribute such high motives! The cynic whispers that when you are being threatened by blood-thirst lions you throw them a bone or two! But let’s run with your explanation for the moment!
