How to get struck by lightning and get a free ebook

My local branch of the Society of Authors just sent me through details of an interesting talk I couldn’t get to; included in the notes was this brilliant quote

“You have more chance of being struck by lightning than becoming a bestselling writer.  But if you really want to be struck by lightning there are a lot of things you can do to improve the odds.”

It was from American writer Joe Konrath who had apparently received 100+ rejection letters before selling 800,000 e-books. Heard of him? I hadn’t but a few google clicks later I not only discovered his website (500 rejections and massive print sales – so for once the story was an underestimate rather than an exaggeration), I also found that he had an ebook called The Newbie’s Guide to Publishing. Just dipped into it and it looks interesting. It’s free to download to your computer (and I do like the word free) but costs if you want the kindle edition.  Find out more here: http://www.jakonrath.com/writers.htm
