Happy St Bridget’s Day

Just discovered on http://www.fisheaters.com that Brigid should be pronounced Brigg-id” or Bree-id but “almost never is”.
Hmmm, so why the should be?
When does a pronunciation move from standard to the thing that only properly brought up people say to we’re guessing in the olden days when the world was young and the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks were taller than the Himalayas they may have said it like this….

Anyway, happy our day to anyone called

Bridget
Brigid
Bhrid
Brigit
Bridgette
Brigitte
Brid
Breid
Breege
Breda
Biddy
Bride
Bridie
Breeze

However you say or spell it!

(Did I miss anyone out?)

Happy saint’s day to you! What is the connection with the knitting?

I’d love to say that I knitted it but no chance…I presumed Bridget was the name of an Aran Island pattern. Just found a lovely website that offer trad Aran Island in a contemporary way at http://inismeain.ie/ but couldn’t see any Bridget’s in this season’s collection…
