The word cyberpunk was first used as the title of a short story about teenager hackers in 1980; you can read it here
The science fiction genre was developed by William Gibson and other writers who mixed a high tech future with low life rebels fighting an elitist system.
Steampunk was originally a jokey version of the term but it has stuck and the writing associated with this sci fi sub genre seems to have a longer life than cyberpunk. (Think industrial revolution, think alternative history.)
In fact, it is supposed to be the next big thing in fashion. The look is Victorian Futuristic which I suspect not everyone will be able to carry off. Read The Independent’s article on what we will all be wearing very soonHERE

Thanks for the link – did you check out the steampunk fashion? Haven’t seen much evidence in the High Street!
Interesting! I’m actually surprised how much steampunk has spread, I love the genre but still didn’t expect it to catch fire like it has.
Stopping by from the A-Z! 🙂

I had no idea about steampunk until recently! Didn’t know about the fashion 🙂
