BRIDGET WHELAN writer

for writers and readers….

R is for REBUS

RA rebus is a visual pun – see below

Rebus is also one of the most interesting and dysfuctional detectives in criminal fiction – created by Ian Rankin. I have most of the books including a signed copy of the most recent – Standing in Another Man’s Grave. I have also been on the Edinburgh walking tour and I once had a drink at The Oxford Arms.

Bit of a fan, you see.

Never read about him, but that might be because I don’t typically do crime books. Still, you’ve got my curiosity. I might have to check it out. 😉

Apparently crime fiction is always popular in times of economic crisis – I guess the inevitable restoration of order with the baddy getting his/her just deserts is comforting but Rebus is too believable and flawed to be that comfortable

I wonder if there are any well adjusted fictional detectives. The Hardy Boys?

Good point! (Any also happily married, on good terms with their line manger and a real team player)
