The only time I saw Leonard Cohen perform was in Calgary last year in Nov. – and that was the best concert I have ever attended in my life. I did have the pleasure of meeting Cohen once when he was promoting “The Book of Mercies” many years ago, again in Calgary. I was working in a book store and Cohen’s sales rep, who was a friend of mine, brought Cohen into the store to drink coffee and eat bagels they had purchased across the street. They sat in the two big armchairs by the front window and we had a lovely conversation. Leonard Cohen is a very gracious and giving performer on stage and is the exact same in person in a casual setting. I felt honoured and fortunate to be in his presence both times.

The only time I saw him was this summer at the O2 in London – gracious is just the right word for his performance. And we all admired his ability to get down in his knees and up again without assistance even thought he will be 80 next year…

Yes, the getting-up-again part seemed like a miracle every time … as did the Gangnam-style dancing across the stage, although perhaps he’s not doing that any longer.

When Cohen does it, it’s not Gangnam style!
