Music and narrative in Flash Fiction – TANIA HERSHMAN Quotes for writers (and people who like quotes)
(Flash fiction) is a form that balances on the flimsy boundary between short story and poem. For me, a flash story must feel like it is on the side of story, even if only just. A poem might describe a moment, an object, a sensation; it has no obligation towards narrative. Story does. It has different needs. Which doesn’t mean it can’t be poetic, of course. My favourite stories use rhythm, beats; they have a musicality to them.
