“…my eyes will never see what is beheld by yours…” George Gissing: Quotes for Writers (and people who like quotes)

two men together
It is the mind which creates the world around us, and even though we stand side by side in the same meadow, my eyes will never see what is beheld by yours, my heart will never stir to the emotions with which yours is touched.

Love this and it’s so true. We each see the world through a different prism. One is not right or wrong, just different. Thanks for sharing this beautiful quote. @sheilamgood at Cow Pasture Chronicles

Glad you like it as much as I do. There’s a phrase I’m very fond of – the world only exists through my eyes. I haven’t a clue where it comes from but this quote from George Gissing reminded me of it. I think folk who are self-absorbed forget this and assume that what fascinates them will strike the same chord in others. To have empathy you need to remember that we’re all holding up different prisms.

Absolutely. Another quote I like is (paraphrasing) Be kind …you never know the burden someone is carrying. Thanks for stopping by the Cow Pasture.
