A 10 point smorgasbord of writing advice for Christmas QUOTES FOR WRITERS (and people who like quotes)

If you wrote down all the suggestions for writing well from successful writers, and tossed them into a hat, the top 10 would look something like this:

1. Write every day, even if it is only for 10 minutes.

2. Use the active not the passive voice.

3. Write like you talk.

4. Never use clichés.

5. Read what you write out loud, or, better yet, have someone else read it to you—sound matters.

6. Go easy on the adjectives and adverbs.

7. Keep it moving.

8. Show, don’t tell.

9. Finish it.

10. Delete the boring stuff.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

It was so great, Chris, I didn’t see your comment until Boxing Day morning. Had a lovely time – hope yours was good.

Thanks Cath – pretty much perfect with 6 year old granddaughter, lots of food, laughter and good company. A highlight was when my sister threw away my carefully nutured gravy (I do very good gravy) just before I was about to serve up. Her son made sure sure no one forgot it and I think it will be one of the family stories that will be told and re-told and added to over the years.
