Free Novel Competition for Women in the UK and Ireland

The Women’s Prize Trust has just launched DISCOVERIES 27. This is a writing competition for unagented and unpublished women writers in the UK and Ireland.

Submit the first 10,000 words of a novel for adult readers and you could win all this:

• a literary agent
• a bursary of £5,000
• a bespoke creative writing course,
• mentoring
• practical advice and industry insight

It’s free to enter and you have months to write, prune and polish.

This is really a no brainer. You have nothing to lose by entering and so much to gain. I know it’s counter-intuitive but there’s something truly freeing about a deadline. It gives you something to work towards and a reason to plan your writing time. Most important of all, it gets you writing.

As Dorothy Parker said, no one wants to write, we all want to do is have written. Get going now and on January 12th you can say that about 10,000 words you’ve produced.
