BRIDGET WHELAN writer

for writers and readers….

Indy Publisher and Literary Agents join forces to run a FREE novel writing course

Hurry! Applications close soon

Indie Novella is a non-profit independent publisher devoted to supporting underrepresented authors. The Arts Council are now funding a free online nine week writing course which is supported by a range of literary agencies.

Application deadline is October 26th 2026

The course starts on October 27th 2026

So, if this sounds like the opportunity you have been waiting for get your skates on!

In your application you will be asked for a “short note” detailing your writing experience and what you hope to gain from the course. Indie Novella also want you to mention a novel you would recommend to another writer, and why.

You will be asked for 1000 words of your own writing, but it’s not for assessment purposes. The organisers want to get an idea of your style to help them match you with a writing peer.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? So click HERE to find out more. There’s also self-starter course available too so check that out if that sounds more like you, or you’ve missed the deadline.

PS

If I were recommending a novel I think it would have to be Claire Keegan’s Small Things Like These. It deals with an emotive and challenging subject in a way that is accessible and in language that is beautiful. It is also a masterclass in writing dialogue.

The film, which is faithful to the book, is on Netflix in the UK until October 27th so hurry to see that too.
